Top Tunes for Teaching: 977 Song Titles & Practical Tools for Choosing the Right Music Every Time

Great book to help teachers pick out the best songs for increased focus, engagement and learning. I’ve put this and iTunes through the paces and have loved it. Makes it easy to reference and spark ideas for lessons and classroom environment.

If I could give this book zero stars, I would. What a rip-off. List after list after list in this book contains songs that are in NO WAY appropriate for the classroom. Did Eric Jensen even bother to look at the lyrics before including these songs???? Case in point: List 13: Jammin’ Hip Hop Tunes includes Bootylicious, Hey Ya, and Funky Cold Medina. Is he kidding? I can’t play those in class. List 18: More Memorable Song from the 80′s includes: She’s Sexy and 17. Even the List 20 Find a Partner songs has Do Ya Think I’m Sexy. I think Jensen just looked at lists of song titles and plopped them onto categories without ever checking out the lyrics. Quick way to make a buck!

I wanted some reading that would inspire me to go into the coming school year. This book is very usable and gives many ideas for using music effectively. It provides sources to make getting started easier. I plan to purchase other books by Eric Jensen hoping that they are as easy to implement as this one seems to be.
